Baird is a city in and the county seat of Callahan County Texas. Baird is about a 25 minute drive from Abilene. It is about 21 miles east of Abilene. Baird is also part of the Abilene, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Baird is named after Matthew Baird who was the owner and director of the Texase & Pacific Railway. The railway depot is now the visitor center and a transportation museum.

Sometimes it's hard to imagine cattle drives in the middel of Texas in the 1800's in our mondern world. Things have come a long way since then! Baird is a great town offering a museum located at the county courthouse. The Callhan County Pioneer Museum will take you back in time! Baird also became the "Antique Capital of West Texas" in 1993. It has wonderful shops to visit! If you stop by don't forget to take a look at the 1911 Texas and Pacific Railroad Depot or relax at a lake! For you guys there is golfing and even a shooting range you can go to.
