Buffalo Gap is a town in Taylor County Texas. It is about a 25 minute drive from Abilene. It is also about 14 miles south west of Abilene. Buffalo Gap is also part of the Abilene, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Buffalo Gap was a point on the Great Western Cattle Trail and it was settled at the site of a natural pass through which buffalo herds traveled. It is also the former county seat of Taylor County. In 1883 it changed over to the much larger town of Abilene.
Besides the natural pass that was created by traveling buffalo herds, the town offers charm and history to many. Vist the Ernie Wilson Museum to see the counties first historic courthouse and jail. Buffalo Gap also has a great historic village to learn from as well. The town has great places to eat and lodge like the Perini Ranch. It offers some great events like the Wine and Food Summit in April, or the Comanche Moon Social in October. The town also has a great farmers market usually held in October, a flea market held every third weekend of each month, as well as lots of local business and shops open year round.
