Clyde is a town in Callahan County Texas. Clyde is about a 20 minute drive from Abilene. It is about 15.5 miles west of Abilene. Clyde is also part of the Abilene, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Clyde was named due to Robert Clyde setting up a construction camp there for the employees of the the T & P Railway Company to get supplies. They would say, "Let's go up to Clyde's," talking about the supply tent . Soon the boxcar location was called Clyde.
Clyde is a small town filled with great people. It has the charm of a small town. However, it is near Abliene allowing the city atmosphere as well. Clyde offers great bbq, pizza, and grills. At Bonterra Blue, where you have fine dining, you also have a chance to learn from some great chefs with their culinary courses. Clyde also offers fishing, boating, nature trails, as well as tent and RV parking while at the lake! In April Clyde has a city wide Easter Egg Hunt, and in May they hold a city wide yard sale. June marks the Festival at the Lake and October the Pecan Fest as well as the Hallelujah Night. All great events for the entire family!
