Hawley is a town in Jones County Texas. Hawley is about a 20 minute drive from Abilene. It is about 16 miles north of Abilene. Hawley is part of the Abilene Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Once known as Deming's Bridge, after Edwin A. Deming. He constructed a crude bridge over the Tres Palacios River in 1857. The community changed the name of the town in 1899.
Hawley has wonderful homes for a great town. It offers a golf course for a nice round of 18 holes! If you don't want a to have a full 18 holes you can always go to the driving range. Hawley is also known for an old cemetery they have. The name of the cemetery was changed around the same time the towns name was changed from Deming’s Bridge. One of the most famous resident is Abel "Shanghai" Pierce. His statue, ordered far in advance of his death, is one of the tallest landmarks.
